Day 2: Thoughts from Mr. Stoesz & Mr. Ferguson

Stephanie overlooking Tepic

I want to post a quick note about yesterday (Jan 31) before Mr. Ferguson shares about what we did today.
After our orientation, quick shopping trip, and siesta, the team hiked up the Hill of the Cross which overlooks Tepic. We prayed over the city and our work we were about to do here in Mexico. It was a great introduction to our week of service.

Hey, first work day done, not too many blisters ...... 26 bags of concrete, 100 lbs each, two wheelbarrows of sand and two of gravel with each mix .... lots of water, stir and apply !!

Megan mixing cement using a pick axe

Sounds easy but it took us all day ... had to mix by hand !!  The team was awesome.  The day started around 6 am, up and shower .... brrrr cold cold cold, then breakfast about 7:30 and away just after 8 am for the church in Compostela.  Pastors Leo, Tony, and Josh were there to work with us and make sure we did the job right !!  No time for a siesta today as we worked right through with about ½ hour break for lunch.  Just a guess, but I think we will all sleep well tonight.

We were in Compostela last year and it was great to be there again helping to improve the church building there.  We actually poured concrete in an area that we did a bit of kids ministry last year.  El piso (the floor) is now smooth, not dirt, and when dry will be a great place to hold kids Sunday school and midweek programs.  We will return there on Friday afternoon for their weekly service and do a kids program.

Got back to home base about 5:30 pm, time for a shower .... brrrr, cold cold cold, then supper at 6:30 pm and we are joining the midweek service for their worship at 7 pm .... this will be awesome.  We already snuck into the back of the college and career service for their worship.  Load and awesome.  Only thing we can say to describe it, and of course no one sits, everyone moves to the front and sings with lots of passion and ... did I mention awesome??  The band is warming up even as I write.  They have 3 projectors running at the front on 3 different screens so all can see clearly from the music to the Pastor as he speaks later.

Westpark team join local and international church leaders at the end of our day.

Well, today was the first day of building.  Tomorrow morning we are doing a bit of demolition on a new building La Fuente have acquired for their discipleship school.  Half day there and then we are doing a youth program in Xalisco.  But enough said about that, more tomorrow.
